Tyronn Jamar Lue was born in Mexico, Missouri, on 03 May 1977. After falling in love with basketball, he attracted some attention from scouts as a point guard and a leader of his high school team.
Good games recommended him to the University of Nebraska, where he became the third-best passer in school history. He averaged almost 16 points per game and had impressive 4,4 assists per game.
Tyronn Lue – Cleveland Cavaliers
Tyronn Lue has never been a regular coach, and he was not taken into account after the 2016 ring, in a year where there was much to talk about. He created a miracle that included the first comeback of Finals history after going 3-1 down… against the Warriors at 73-9.
Before becoming a rookie coaching champion, Lue was a young assistant, a good guy who had strong relationships with the players as if they were his equals and had a playing career that included two rings but always as a bench player in the League.
In his playing career years, the point guard became famous for his defense over Iverson in the 2001 Finals, but after that, he didn’t have good seasons with Wizards and Michael Jordan (2001-03). He was stumbling until he retired in the Orlando Magic, in 2009, after reaching his third Finals, in which he did not play. He was always a likable guy who got along very well with his teammates and was sometimes a link between coach Stan Van Gundy and the squad during his final months as a professional in Orlando.

After that started his coaching career as an assistant in the Celtics and Clippers and then in the Cavs, where the story is well known and not entirely appreciated.
Lue reached the position of head coach with controversy. David Blatt was coming from leading the Cavs to the Finals in his first year in the NBA, and the loss to the Warriors was not too bad because of the injuries of Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving. However, Blatt was surprisingly fired when his team led the Eastern Conference and had more than 70% victories (30-11).
The arrival of Lue, who got along very well with the players, was a breath of fresh air in the long run, but at the beginning, fans were full of doubts.
There were also accusations of having allied with LeBron to end Blatt’s position with the team.
Lue started with organizing a team meeting where he encouraged everyone to speak and in which Love and Kyrie shared their opinions. And then he showed defensive clips to LeBron in a video session where he demanded from him the same defensive effort as the rest of the team.

He led the Cavs to three straight NBA finals in his 3 years with the Ohio franchise.
Following LeBron’s departure in 2019, Lue led six solo games for the Cavs (lost all of them) before being fired. His health problems (insomnia, anxiety, back pain …), which made him miss matches in the two previous seasons, made him take a sabbatical and return to a position less demanding than that of head coach.
Tyronn Lue – Los Angeles Clippers
After talking with the Lakers and a possible reunion with LeBron, he landed in the Clippers as an assistant to a Doc Rivers with whom he was already in his first experience on the benches in Boston, from 2011 to 2013, and in 2013-14, first by Doc in Los Angeles, with Griffin, Chris Paul, DeAndre Jordan, and company. And after Rivers’ dismissal, he has taken over the reins of a morally loose and absolutely disunited team. Clippers were without an evident culture within a franchise that has never had it and with which they had to rely on his locker room management more than ever.

Lue’s first task was to create non-existent chemistry, unite the old Clippers with the new stars (Kawhi and Paul George), and create a culture in a place that never had a winning mentality.
After the first season in which he took his team to the best playoff appearance in the Clippers’ history, Lue is being praised again.
As a winner, Ty knows that the team will never be able to go all the way if you don’t take care of psychological and social work connections between the players.
This season team from the city of angels is looking very stable, and if they continue to stay on that path, they may put one more ring on their coach’s hand.

Who walked over Ty Lue?
NBA Finals series between the Philadelphia 76ers and Los Angeles Lakers remains one of the most recognizable games in recent NBA history. The Los Angeles Lakers were the defending champions led by Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant, and they hadn’t lost in more than two months. The Sixers were coming off a back-to-back seventh game series with the Toronto Raptors and the Milwaukee Bucks. The series was not close as the Lakers won 4-1, which was not an easy game. What makes this game so unique? Allen Iverson’s iconic step over Tyronn Lue.
Both former players still live with the iconic image and clip two decades after the clip was made, but Allen Iverson said he didn’t know he did it in a recent podcast. The NBA Hall of Famer said he doesn’t remember how he walked over Lue in the final.

Why did Ty Lue turn down the Lakers?
Tyronn Lue and the Lakers were close to reaching an agreement in summer 2019, but that didn’t happen in the end. Lue was the one who had rejected the offer since he expected a contract of more years (5). They offered him three seasons.
One more reason is Jason Kidd, who was one of the candidates as a possible assistant. Ty did not want Kidd as an assistant, and he was also seeing that the franchise imposed a coaching staff on him, something he really didn’t like.
How much does Tyronn Lue make?
Ty Lue has agreed to a five-year contract with the LA Clippers worth around $7 million per year. That deal places him among the highest-paid coaches in the NBA, behind only the most significant names such as Gregg Popovich, Steve Kerr, Doc Rivers.
Are Tyronn Lue and Jayson Tatum related?
Yes, Jayson Tatum and LA Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue are cousins. “Little Jay’s,” as Lue calls Jayson, father and the Clippers coach are cousins. Ty is proud of Tatum’s development, but the matchup against him is something he really doesn’t like.
