Chauncey Billups – Portland Trail Blazers & Career

Chauncey Billups was born in Denver, Colorado, where he grew up and started to play basketball. The date of his birth is September 25, 1976. He is the son of African American Ethnicity and is a US citizen.

For his education, he joined George Washington High School in Denver in 1995, where he became Colorado’s Player of the Year as a sophomore and as a junior.

He attended the University of Colorado for his further studies and played two seasons for the Buffaloes. At Colorado, he was scoring 18.5 points per game together with 5.1 assists. Portland Trail Blazers will give a chance to rookie head coach: Chauncey Billups. The coach has worked as an assistant in the Los Angeles Clippers in what has been his first experience on the benches. A year after his debut as NBA head coach, he will arrive at the franchise that needs to take a step forward and finally show some playoffs success.

Damian Lillard, the absolute star of the team, has left more doubts than ever about his continuity, as they had been non-existent. One Man Show has always expressed his intentions to achieve glory with the organization that chose him in the 2012 Draft. His speech took a completely different approach after losing in the first round of the playoffs last season. Dame said that falling short in the first round was disappointing and that he will see what happens in the future. With the new head coach, the Blazers will try to redirect the situation and make their superstar happy.

Billups was Lillard’s favorite candidate, and Billups will ultimately be the one to direct him next season. Damian and Chauncey have a close relationship, but that kind of relationship also exists between general manager Olshey and the new coach. According to multiple NBA sources, the franchise player and the coach have been in constant contact during the selection process. The friendship between Olshey and dates back to 2011. At that time, Olshey was general manager of the Los Angeles Clippers, and in his eyes, Billups was one of the top point guards to have played in the league. Olshey pushed hard to sign him, but that never happened.

Billups played in 2011 for the New York Knicks, because he was a part of the trade which sent Carmelo Anthony to New York. Although he wanted to finish his career with Nuggets his episode with the Knicks was successful because the team managed to reach Playoffs.

In the summer coaching changes throughout the NBA, he was also connected with the Celtics, the team that selected him in 1997 as the third pick in the Draft. Still, Ime Udoka has landed in Boston, with an excellent reputation as an assistant and with the blessing of Brad Stevens (ex-coach and new director of basketball operations.) Jason Kidd, another connected name with Portland, has also found a new home: the Dallas Mavericks

Brooklyn Nets and ex Houston Rockets head coach Mike D’Antoni and San Antonio Spurs assistant Becky Hammon have been candidates for the Blazers’ new coach.

Billups, the one who was finally chosen, arrives to replace Terry Stotts, who said goodbye to the franchise only one day after the playoffs loss to the Denver Nuggets. After eight and a half years in the organization, he said goodbye with three first-round playoff knockdowns in four years, the 2019 Western Finals as the high point, and with Portland’s second-worst percentage in the finals (23-44, a 34.3%), only behind Mike Fratello (32.3%). Along with Billups, Lillard will attempt his long-awaited script change.
