He worked as an assistant coach for the Cleveland Cavaliers from 2010 to 2014. With the Cavs, he established himself as a defensive guru.
After four successful seasons in Ohio, he joined the Dallas Mavericks as an assistant coach in 2014. Working under head coach Rick Carlisle opened new horizons and prepared him for a head coaching job. He developed leadership skills.
In Dallas, his job was also helping young rookies adjust to professional basketball. Mosley was very close with Luka Doncic. He gets a lot of credits for helping with Doncic’s acclimation to the NBA. Luka mentioned him several times in interviews as the person helping him in the first seasons.

Mosley became the Mavericks’ defensive coordinator in 2018 and is responsible for the team’s defensive strategies.
Mosley worked as an assistant coach working with the U.S. National Team during the team camp before the last Olympic games. Working with young players is one of his most significant attributes.
Jamahl Mosley – Orlando Magic
Jamahl Mosley was named the Orlando Magic head coach in July 2021. Mosley became the 15th head coach in franchise history.

Orlando hopes that the new coach will develop their young players and establish a defensive system that will carry them to the Playoffs. Jamahl is known for his communication skills, and team chemistry is something that Magic teams lacked in previous seasons.
Players loved to play for Mosley, and he was never afraid to give them freedom and keep them accountable. He likes that his teams are aggressive and play fast-paced basketball. Orlando Magic franchise is looking for a long-term coaching solution, and fans hope that Mosley can turn things around and establish a new culture in the Florida team.
Did Jamahl Mosley play in the NBA?
Jamahl Mosley never played in NBA, although he had a solid international career playing in three different continents (Europe, Australia, and Asia).
Who owns the Orlando Magic?
Orlando Magic NBA team is not owned by one person but by a corporation. Technically, the corporation was set up expressly to purchase the Orlando Magic. Richard DeVos set up that corporation. RDV Sports was launched in 1991, and it still owns the Orlando Magic team. Their headquarters is located in Orlando. It isn’t strange for an NBA team to be held under a company. It is a strategic way to protect personal assets, and it was wise to go this route.
Richard DeVos passed away in 2018, but his son Dan continued the family legacy. Dan has held the position of Orlando Magic chairman since 2011. He also serves as president of the Orlando Magic Youth Foundation. Younger DeVos also owns and operates other athletic teams.
Who are the assistant coaches of the Orlando Magic?
Jamahl Mosley has named Nate Tibbetts, Jesse Mermuys, Dale Osbourne, Bret Brielmaier, and Lionel Chalmers assistant coaches in his first season as a head coach. As a rookie coach, he wanted staff with experience but at the same time guys that will always be open and honest.
