Kyle Lowry was born on March 25, 1986, in North Philadelphia to Marrie Holloway and Lonnie Lowry Sr. He has an older brother, Lonnie Jr who was the real father figure for him. Lonnie Sr left the family when Kyle was only seven years old. Kyle’s mother worked two jobs to support the family and his strict grandmother was taking care of the kids.

The brother prohibited Kyle to have any tattoos and piercings and kept an eye on Kyle. Lonnie Jr taught Kyle to play basketball, as they participated in pickup games against older friends. Lonnie Jr also did everything so that his brother’s talent won’t go to waste, as he searched for the AAU basketball tryouts in the newspaper ads.

Kyle Lowry – High School Point Guard

Lowry enrolled in Cardinal Dougherty High School in Philadelphia and became the school’s varsity team’s point guard. His skill was visible from the beginning and he was considered the number six point guard in the country, and overall 28th best player in the US. He was considered a five-star recruit.

Kyle Lowry – College Career

Lowry attended Villanova University and became a part of the school’s team, the Wildcats. He was selected to the Big East All-Rookie team and was given Philadelphia Big Five Rookie of the Year honors, as he averaged 7.5 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1.3 steals per game.

As a sophomore, he gained All-Big East Second Team honors and the First Team All-Big 5 recognition. He started 31 games but participated in 33, where he averaged 11 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 2.3 steals per game.

Kyle Lowry – Memphis Grizzlies

Lowry opted out of his last two years at the university and entered the 2006 NBA draft. He was selected as the 24th overall pick by the Memphis Grizzlies. He started the regular season by appearing in 10 games, but he broke his wrist on November 21, 2006, and had to undergo surgery. He missed the rest of the season because of it.

For 2007-08, Lowry played in all 82 games, sharing his playing time as a point guard with Mike Conley Jr. He was sidelined in 2009 after the Grizzlies hired a new coach, Lionel Hollins, who preferred Conley as a starter. Lowry didn’t hide his disappointment and the organization wasn’t happy with his attitude.

Kyle Lowry – Houston Rockets

As it was predicted, on February 19, 2009, Lowry was traded to the Houston Rockets to play under head coach, Rick Adelman. It was a better fit than before, as the Rockets made it into the playoffs.

In the 2009-10 season, Lowry posted career-high 26 points, 10 assists, six rebounds, and five steals in a game played December 18 against the Dallas Mavericks. In the summer of 2010, Lowry became a restricted free agent but when the Cleveland Cavaliers offered him a 23,5 million dollar contract, the Rockets matched the offer.

The 2010-11 season brought recognition for Lowry as he topped his career-high multiple times. On February 16, he posted 36 points in a game against the New Orleans Hornets, and on March 20, he made his first-ever triple-double, which resulted in him being named Western Conference Player of the Week.

For the 2010-11 changes were implemented in the coaching squad and Lowry didn’t particularly like new head coach Kevin McHale. The season was shortened by a lockout and had only 66 games, and Lowry started in 38 of them and appeared in 47. He had to miss 16 games in March and April because he had to be hospitalized for his bacterial infection. The medical problems were another reason for the team’s management to make a trade deal, which also would resolve salary issues.

Kyle Lowry – Toronto Raptors

Lowry joined the Toronto Raptors for the 2012-13 season, as he was traded for Gary Forbes and a future first-round pick. He played through the first three games of the season, but he sustained an injury during the fourth game. It was a shame since he averaged 23 points and seven assists. He went back as an off-bench player but soon was again in the starting lineup. The Raptors didn’t make the playoffs.

The next season, the trade rumors started to brew again and Lowry decided to fight for his spot on the team, along with shooting guard, Raptors teammate, DeMar DeRozan. The two combined their strengths and the Raptors made a playoff appearance. Lowry averaged 17.9 points per game, 7.4 assists per game and 4.7 rebounds per game, and over 21 points during the short playoff run. He became a free agent after the season, but the Raptors knew that they couldn’t let him go and he was offered a 48 million dollar deal.

Kyle Lowry – All-Star

Lowry became the Raptors’ triple-double leader, making his sixth triple-double on November 7, 2014. On December 3, he posted 39 points, topping his career-high. He was subsequently named the Eastern Conference Player of the Month, for his December performances, averaging 22.3 points, 8.9 assists and 4.2 rebounds. He was picked to the starting lineup of the 2015 NBA All-Star Game, becoming just the third Raptor ever to do so in franchise history.

He was named to the NBA All-Star Game starting lineup once again and took part in the Three-Point Contest. Along with DeMar DeRozan, he won Eastern Conference of the Month for their 11-game winning streak in January. On February 22, 2016, he posted his eighth triple-double and a few days later, he added a career-high of 43 points, along with nine assists, five rebounds and four steals. The Raptors went into the playoffs once again.

Lowry suffered bursitis in his elbow, which reflected on his shooting performance. He managed to get over the slump, posting 33 points in the second round of the playoffs against the Miami Heat, topping that with 35 in game seven. The Raptors managed to go as far as the Eastern Conference Finals, where they were eliminated by the Cleveland Cavaliers, despite Lowry’s 35-point performance in Game 4. For his great input, Lowry was named to the All-NBA third team.

The 2016-17 season was full of injuries for Lowry. It started very promisingly, as he broke the franchise record, making all of his 6 three-pointers in a game on November 28, 2016, against the Philadelphia 76ers. Later. On February 5, 2017, he posted his ninth triple-double. He chased the three-pointers franchise record and surpassed it on February 6, 2017. He couldn’t participate in 18 games played through March and April, but when he came back, he helped the team to qualify for the playoffs. In round two, Lowry sprained his ankle and the Raptors were swept by the Cavs 4-0.

The team re-signed Lowry, giving him a 100 million dollar three-year contract. He proved his worth by posting the 11th triple-double of his career on December 15, 2017, and scored season-high 40 points on January 20, 2018. He gained his fourth consecutive All-Star honors, by being selected to the 2018 NBA All-Star game reserve. The playoff run was almost the same as the previous year, as the Raptors were swept 4-0 by the Cavs once again.

Kyle Lowry – NBA Finals

For 2017-18, Lowry went big from the start, scoring 27 points in the season opener. He went on a streak, recording double-doubles for six consecutive games. In December, he had to miss four games due to a left thigh injury, later missed six games to the lower back injury.

Lowry posted seven three-pointers, establishing his new career-high in the Eastern Conference Finals against the Milwaukee Bucks. The Raptors lost that game, but they still managed to go into the NBA Finals. In the Finals, they battled Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors. The Toronto Raptors won their first NBA Championship in the team’s history.

Lowry’s contract was extended one more year, earning him 31 million dollars. The season was cut short because of the pandemic, and when they participated in the NBA bubble games, they were eliminated by the Boston Celtics in the second round of the playoffs.

Kyle Lowry – Miami Heat

The Heat made a sign and trade deal to take Lowry from the Raptors for the 2021-22 season. The player said that he wants to retire as the Toronto Raptor, no matter what, but the Heat seems to be a right fit for him.
